#90 Wie eine Wurzelbehandlung abläuft – Steps of a Root Canal Treatment

00:00:33: In this lesson we will talk about consulting and informing the patient on the steps of a root canal treatment. So, let’s start! Endodontic treatment helps to maintain your patient’s natural smile. They can continue to eat foods they love and with proper care, most teeth that have had a root canal treatment can last a lifetime. Eine endodontische Behandlung trägt dazu bei, das natürliche Lächeln der Patienten zu erhalten. Sie können weiter ihre Lieblingsspeisen essen, und mit der richtigen Pflege können die meisten wurzelbehandelten Zähne ein Leben lang halten.

00:01:25: Following we will talk about the different steps of a root canal treatment and how to explain it to your patients, so they know what to expect. You can start with the following sentences: „A root canal treatment is a routine procedure designed to relieve pain and save your natural tooth.“ „A root canal treatment is a highly successful way to save your tooth and eliminate pain.“ „I will guide you through each step so you know exactly what to expect.“ „Please feel free to ask any questions.” Step 1 – Numbing the Tooth: First, we will apply a local anesthetic to completely numb the area around your tooth. You might feel a slight pinch when we administer the anesthesia, but after that, you shouldn’t feel any pain during the procedure. Step 2 – Creating an Access Opening: Once the tooth is numb, I will make a small opening in the top of the tooth to access the infected or damaged pulp inside. A small hole is created in the tooth's surface. This hole allows access to the pulp chamber inside the tooth. Through the opening, access is gained to the pulp chamber. Step 3 – Removing the Infected Tissue: Using special instruments, I will carefully remove the infected or inflamed tissue from the root canals. This helps eliminate bacteria and prevents further infection. Step 4 – Cleaning and Shaping the Canals: I will clean and disinfect the canals thoroughly, as well as shape them to prepare for the filling material. The cleaned pulp chamber is then shaped using special tools, and it is then filled with biologically compatible material. This step helps support the inner part of the tooth and protects it from external influences. If the canals are complex or very fine, this step may take some extra time to ensure all areas are treated. Step 5 – Filling the Canals: Once the canals are completely clean and dry, I will fill them with a special biocompatible material called gutta-percha. This seals the space and prevents bacteria from re-entering. Step 6 – Sealing the Tooth and Restoration: I will close the opening in the tooth with a temporary or permanent filling. Depending on the tooth's condition after treatment, additional treatments for the tooth's restoration may be necessary. In most cases, a crown is recommended later to strengthen and protect the tooth from breaking. Step 7 – Recovery and Aftercare: You may feel some mild discomfort for a few days, but this can usually be managed with pain killers. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing. Regular check-ups are essential after treatment. Last, but not least, you can say: If you have any questions or concerns during or after the procedure, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are here to help you feel comfortable and informed every step of the way.
